Welcome 2009

Ah the New Year. It seems like just 365 days ago we were starting 2008 and now we are in 2009! How time flies. In honor of this I want to share with you all (Hi Mom!) the time honored tradition of making my New Years Resolutions. Bear in mind I could (and probably should) write down at least 50 things I should chane about myself as soon as possible. But to me that is not what a resolution should be about. Making a resolution should be about setting hopelessly high goals for yourself and trying really hard to achieve them anyways---for about a week. After that all bets are off. Im kidding, kinda sorta. In my mind a resolution is basically a goal with more weight to it. It needs to be measurable. Instead of, "I resolve to get in better shape," think, "I will run 3 times a week." If you really hold yourself accountable and run 3 times a week, you will be accomplishing your goal of getting in better shape, without the ambiguity. What does "better shape" even mean?

With that in mind here are my 2009 Resolutions!

1. Keep my email inbox organized.

2. Run at least 3 mornings a week with the goal of breaking 50 min. in the Remember the Ten 10K in April.

3. Cook meals at least twice a week.

4. Take Henry for longer walks.

5. Pay off my credit card bill and then start saving money.

6. Update this blog with the exciting happenings in my life and profound thoughts in my head.

I'd like to believe these are easy enough but if time has taught me anything about myself its that nothing is EVER easy. I kept it very simple, and hopefully this means in a year I will be writing about how successful I have been with my resolutions.

Happy New Year!

PS: What are your resolutions? If you have any that you want to own up to and share with me (and if you are brave enough to admit that you actually read this blog) post them in the comments section.

Hum, resolutions?
That one is always a hard one to do. I remember me Sr. Year in college I came up with an awesome resolution list and carried it in my wallet. It was actually still in it until new years eve this year when I took it out. Not because I was tired of those resolutions, but more that I did not want to lose them.

So, all of that and I didnt even get close to answering what my resolutions are yet. Basically because I still dont know. I really havent sat down to think of what I want to resolve to do... let me correct that, there are tons of things I want to do and to do better, but they are all things that I try to do anyway, and I do not need a resolution to push me to them. I feel that that would be a faux resolution (since it is more my way of life and ideas that I already live) and not something that I am going to strive for in a or for a particular year. See, unlike your thoughts about setting hopelessly high goals for yourself, I cant. I still lack the actual desire to set goals... actually i think i may want to set some type of goals, but i am not sure yet. Maybe I should have some sort of resolution about finding a goal. If i do that, that means i am committing to finding a goal, and I am not sure if i want that type of commitment.
Maybe it would be simpler for me to resolve to find a resolution to strive for. That way, it is not set in stone, but still sounds like something good to do.
Maybe my lack of motivation is the reason for my lack of goals and resolutions... but I do have some motivations, I just do not really know what motivates me. I think if i figure that one out then maybe my resolution problem will be solved. But then is me trying to find motivation a resolution? It is not something that I can really actively do. It is more something that i think will hit me and make me be like 'wow' Otherwise it is like looking in the proverbial haystack for a needle. I know that is a little overused, and due to mythbusters I know it is possible to find. But it is something that is more likely to stick you before you even see it.

So what am I saying here? Good question... I think it is mostly saying Happy New Years, and hope it treats you well in everything and in you trying to reach you high goals and resolutions.
